I used to freeze when it was my turn to speak. Now I help you find your words.

Before my first voyage, I lost my words.

I grew up in a northern bay, listening to passing sailors tell stories about the world. More than anything, I wanted to join an expedition.

I prepared all night for my first interview. But when they asked why I wanted to join, my mind went blank. All I managed was: “I swim pretty fast.”

So I practised with different friends: which waters I knew, where I had guided others, and what I did when storms rolled in. At my next interview, I was still nervous. But this time, they got to know the real me.

Now that I’m a guide, I have a habit: before we set off, I practise once more with the friend who hasn’t found their voice yet.

A little particular

If you say “we did a lot,” I’ll ask: “Which part did you do?”

I’m good at helping you get to the point. My own introduction? It usually needs cutting in half.
